Frequently Asked Questions

you asked. we answered.

The best way to contact us for bookings is a call OR text to 480.227.1819. We do check the business email provided on our contact page (danielle@desertbeerburros.com) every day as well. We require a signed contract and first payment to reserve your burro/event date. We'll schedule a final planning call about a month out from the event date to firm up all the details. The contract balance is due 14 days prior to your event.

how do i book a burro?

We do our absolute best to ensure that we can fit our client's budget. However, we do need to consider fuel cost, feed cost, handler wages, trailer maintenance and the health/well-being of our burros when traveling outside of the greater Phoenix area. That being said, clients in Tucson, Flagstaff and out of state will experience a higher cost to compensate for those factors. We keep up with market trends and industry standards to make sure we're not contracting for more than absolutely necessary. We're here to work with you and for you.

WHY DOES YOUR COST VARY BY LOCATION?

Prior to their arrival, all burros are bathed and brushed. They even get a little shine spray so they're picture perfect and ready for their close up. One to two equine trained handlers will arrive to your venue thirty to forty-five minutes prior to the contracted start time. The burros are dressed on-site before coming in to greet your guests.

WHAT HAPPENS THE DAY OF THE EVENT?

No. We will coordinate with the planner and/or the venue to provide the ice and alcohol. If you'd like the burros to carry something specific, we're happy to work with your planner/venue to make it happen. While we are insured, we do not carry our own liquor license and operate as servers under the license of the venue.

DO YOU PROVIDE THE ALCOHOL?

We pride ourselves on leaving every venue as beautiful as when we arrived. Each burro is fit with a "donkey diaper" to ensure that no mess is left behind. But don't worry you shouldn't notice it. We also offer booties if there are any concerns regarding the burros' hooves scratching or marking up flooring inside a facility.

WHERE DOES THE... YOU KNOW... GO?

Whenever you work with animals there is always a risk that they could "misbehave" or choose not to cooperate. Our burros grew up around people, are frequently taken out on hikes where they stop to meet new friends and are constantly surrounded by other animals (horses, dogs, tortoises, chickens). They've been trained to carry packs without issue. On extremely rare occasions burros may choose to "roll" in order to scratch an itch, bray (make loud noises) when they see someone new or "buck" if they feel threatened. They can also be stubborn about walking from one surface to another so handlers may need to wrap a lead rope around their bums to pull them into a location. Rest assured bad behavior is rare and handled swiftly. We work hard to ensure the safety of the people around us and the physical health of our burros.

DOES THE BURRO EVER MISBEHAVE?

Our burros come with standard flower crowns and/or necklaces. Those flowers can be customized to match your color scheme. Their packs can also fit with greeting signs like: "Let's Party!", "Just Married," "Drink Up!" and more. We're also happy to customize our signs to include your company logo, initials, etc. For themed parties like Cinco De Mayo, Fourth of July, Christmas, we do have decorations that our burros can wear.

WHAT PERSONALIZATIONS DO YOU OFFER?

Yes! Every event vendor should have insurance. Especially when you're working with animals. We carry a commercial liability policy that we're happy to provide each client and venue.
